Where the strength of man meets the grandeur of nature

stamaria.jpg

Many who visit Ilocos may not know this place yet. Me and my friends, Bennette, John, Elmar, with Red and Caloy (not in the picture), had the privilege of being one of the first visitors of this place when it opened to the public about mid-90’s. This man-made lake on top of a mountain, referred to simply by the locals as “dam,” is located in Brgy. Sta. Maria, Piddig, Ilocos Norte. It has an island in the middle where makeshift cottages (ideal for picnics only; no overnight) can be found. There are no restaurants in here yet, so better bring your own food. Entrance fee is at Php10.00 per head and Php150.00 per cottage (inclusive of bamboo raft ride to and from the island). From the poblacion of Piddig, it takes about 20 minutes to get there on (bearable) rough road. It’s better if you have your own vehicle though. In this man-made lake where the strength of man meets the grandeur of nature, one can simply relax, bond with family members and friends, and commune with nature.
